What is a RFID pass?
RFID technology applications
RFID technology has all kinds of applications. At Cards Unlimited, we process the chips in plastic cards. What are our passes used for?
As an access pass
RFID cards are very suitable for granting people access to a company or site. This includes hotels, business premises, the gym, the parking garage, ski slopes, events, and fairs. Hold the card in front of a card reader and a door or gate will open. Easier than a traditional key. Thanks to RFID technology, you can also keep track of who is (or has been) inside.
To check in
Another application of the RFID pass is, for example, the public transport chip card or the pass with which employees clock in at work. The RFID card contains information about the person and registers that this person is at that location at that time. At Cards Unlimited, for example, we make contactless cards for TESO, the ferry service between Den Helder and the Wadden island of Texel.
For contactless payment
Most bank cards offer the option to pay without inserting the card into a PIN machine. The information on the card is read via RFID technology. The amount to be paid then determines whether you still need a PIN code or not. This is a limitation that the banks impose, in fact any amount would be possible via RFID.
